Tolerance is one of the most important material and spiritual needs of human society today. Without tolerance it would be impossible to acquire peace and tranquility. It is actually possible to say that the person of the Noble Prophet (s) is a model for all times and with respect to all things. It is for this reason that the Qur’an refers to his conduct as being great In response to the insults, injuries and annoyance of his enemies the Prophet (s) always prayed on their behalf. He would ask God to guide them and make them felicitous. The special place of tolerance is clear for anyone who examines the verses of the Qur’an and the traditions. Thus, being tolerant is tantamount to obeying the command of God. Keeping in mind the conduct of the Great Prophet (s) we can understand that all human beings need tolerance and compassion in their individual and collective lives. In this paper, the author has discovered the high place that tolerance has in the Qur’an and the tradition, tolerance is an Islamic principle that is used to interact with other people, God commanded the Prophet (s) to be tolerant with His servants, the effect of tolerance on upbringing, the divine prophets (s) were commanded to be tolerant with people and that tolerance is an ethical responsibility in Islam. The Qur’an has introduced the Prophet (s) as being ‘a good model’. In brief, the end of the Prophet was the most compassionate and tolerant of the divine prophets (a).

In this paper, an examination will be made of view of the Commander of the Faithful (a) regarding the divine tradition of trials and tribulations. In the view of the Commander of the Faithful (a), the trials of life are one of the permanent traditions of the system of creation. By disclosing the various aptitudes of individuals by means of these trials, God finds that some of them deserve rewards while others deserve punishment. By means of the disclosure of the thankful and the ungrateful, man traverses his path to perfection by means of his free-will and choice. No human being can exempt himself from this perpetual tradition. It is by means of testing that the spirit of resistance is created in man and he comes out of his state of negligence. Also, it is due to these tests that he becomes aware of his inner potential. It is also by means of this that God fulfills His responsibility with regards to human beings.

The Infallibles (a) would mostly propagate and defend Islam from the objections and queries of the followers of other religions. They would debate with them in a scientific manner and would never display enmity with them or accuse them of apostasy. The Family of the Prophet (a) would use the following tools in their discussions with the followers of other religions: They would pay attention to scientific discussions, show respect to the person they were addressing as well as those beliefs that the person valued to, they would reference those resources that were trusted by their audience, use strong arguments to further their own claims, they would display the utmost command over the scriptures of these people and finally they always debated with them in a morally acceptable manner. These are some of the dimensions of the conduct of the Family of the Prophet (a) with the adherents of other faiths in the religious debates they conducted with them. In this paper, we have examined some of this conduct. Keeping in mind the fact that most of the contact of the Infallibles (a) with the followers of other Abrahamic religions was cultural in nature and that this was manifested in their debates with them as well as the answers they gave to these people’s questions we have divided this paper into three sections. The first section deals with the cultural conduct of the Infallibles (a) with the People of the Book. Then, we have taken a look at the debates that they had with these people and the scientific discussions that these lead to. Finally, an examination has been made of the methodology of this conduct that itself can be divided into three sections: The first deals with the scientific discussions with the followers of other religions. The next is the attention paid by the Infallibles (a) to the things that were respected by the audience they were addressing. Finally, there is the fact that the Infallibles referenced the texts that the followers of other religions accepted to be true.

Throughout history there have been historical personalities that have helped the society in which they lived in as well as all of humanity by means of the sacrifices they have made. One of these people was the Lady Khadijah (a), the intelligent and self-sacrificing wife of the Prophet of Islam (s). She lived thirty years before the advent of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula. She was born in the vicinity of the fountain of Zam-Zam, which was the memory of the wife of Abraham and Ismail. In her life she showed us that she had a heart as pure as a mirror, a mind as active as the fountain of Zam-Zam and a temperament as clean as the distant waterfalls. In contrast to the perverse culture of the Arabs in which she was born, her family respected her deeply and named her Khadijah, Tahirah (the pure one), Afifah (the chaste one) and Mubarakah (the blessed). She played an important role in Islam. She remained at the side of the Prophet (s) in the first 25 years of his missions, which were the most critical of them all. In this time period she helped him a lot. In this paper we have made an examination of the political conduct of the Lady Khadijah (a) and the role it played in the progress of Islam. We have attempted to answer the following question: How did her political actions help in the formation and spread of Islam. We have reached the conclusion that the genesis and spread of Islam was affected by the help, management and leadership of the Lady Khadijah (a). It was by means of her blessed actions that today Islam is the second largest religion of the world and will soon become the largest religion of them all. All of this stems from her affirmation of the Prophet (s) at the very difficult time of the genesis of his missions, her defense of his prophethood and the new religion of Islam and most importantly the financial help that she gave her husband, the new Prophet (s) as well as her sincere advice.

The inhabitants of the eastern provinces of the Islamic world – from Bukhara to Khurasan – have always displayed a special affection for the Family of the Prophet (s). The migration and residency of many Shia groups and ancestors of the Prophet (s) in the cities of Bukhara, Samarqand, Khwarazm, Tumuz, Balkh, Qandaz, Herat and Ghaznin also expresses the special love of the inhabitants of these cities for the Family of the Prophet (s). Many of the people of these cities migrated to Arabia in order to meet and serve the Family of the Prophet (s). One of the admirers of this Family (a) in the first century of the Heijrah came from the city of Kabul. He was named Abu Khalid al Kabuli. He is counted as one of the five followers of Imam Zayn al Abidin (a). He understood the truth of the Imamate of Imam Ali ibn al Husain (a) from Muhammad ibn Hanafiyyah and following this he went to meet him. He continuously served him and became one of the special companions and admirers of that Imam (a). In this paper, a brief examination of the life of this special companion of the fourth Imam (a) will be mande.

Mukhtar Thaqafi is one of the individuals who were examined by the experts of the science of Rijal – regardless of whether they were Shia or Sunni. This examination is interesting since he is not one of the individuals who actually narrated any hadiths. Nevertheless, the experts of the science of Rijal have always examined his life. In this regards, the Shia Rijali scholars have often expressed contradicting opinions regarding him. Some of them have said that he is trustworthy while others have denied this fact. A third group has refrained from expressing any definite opinion regarding him. This is while all of the Sunni scholars have said that he is unreliable. In this paper an attempt has been made to examine and analyze the manner in which this person has been portrayed in the Shia and Sunni Rijali works. In the first section, an examination of the views of the Shia Rijali scholars regarding Mukhtar has been made. In the second section, the distinctions of this person – based upon the science of Rijal – has been presented. In the third section, an answer to those who label him as being unreliable has been given In the final section, a critique has been made of the views of the Sunni scholars regarding this person.
