The Palestinian- Israeli conflict is the longest struggle of recent times that has wrecked damage to both life and property of innocent people. The struggle has cast doubt on human nature as a peace-loving creature and has challenged its intellectual maturity. Although numerous attempts have been made to resolve thedifferences and put an end to the long-drawn conflict, none have been successful mainly because of the interests ingrained in the attemptsmade. None have been bipartisan and genuine in their cause. This article aims to explore the reasons behind the conflict and to understand the situation created by the Intifada-the new surge of uprising against Israel. It dwells on the peace negotiations and tries to present a picture of events for the future. How the Palestinian Authority has dealt with the issue, how it treats the Oslo Declaration and the functional policies it has persued are the main questions dealt with in this article. In conclusion, the article deals with the Intifada and evaluateshow this popular movement and struggle affect both Israel and the Palestinian Authority. It concludes that the conflict is not only a struggle for land but also the question of identity has come to surface, with all its consequences on Mr. Arafat’s accommodative policies towards Israel and the whole Palestinian cause.

The purpose of this article is to provide a historical perspective on the contemporary disputes by evaluating an influential multidisciplinary analysis of war and peace of the interwarperiod by period by Quincy Wrigh’s study of war in 1942. After reviewing the main features of a study of war, the present article evalutes the quality of Wight’s analysis of three important topics raised in this comprehensive work: the nature of one of the major states in the international system namely, Stalin’s USSR, the determinants of World War II, and the economics of war and peace. Comparisons are made between Quincy Wright’s and interwar Soviet Marxist assessment of the same subjects. This is intended both to reveal their differing interpretations of concepts and events and to show their similarities with respect to an ambition, multidisciplinary claims to a scientific methodology, attempts to provide an explanation of the historical evolution of war in all societies, normative natures, and millennial visions of a future peacful world. The findings then are related to the modern debates mentioned above.
