    Objective
The aim of this study was evaluating the relationship between maternal serum lipid measured at 13-23 weeks of pregnancy and subsequent glucose intolerance.
    Materials And Methods
In a prospective study, 624 pregnant women prior to 23 weeks were eligible for the study. Primarily, serum levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglyceride were measured. Women were grouped according to tertiles determined by the distribution of maternal serum lipid concentration among the entire cohort. Then, all patients at 24-28 gestation weeks were screened with a 50gr oral glucose test. The prevalence of abnormal GCT was compared among the lipid profile tertiles.
    Results
The number of women with abnormal GCT was less in the group with TG concentration in lower tertile in comparison with the groups with TG concentrations in the higher and middle tertile (P<0.001, P=0.004 respectively).
    Conclusion
Triglyceride levels early in pregnancy are associated with abnormal GCT.

    Objective
Prevalence of tooth loss is higher among diabetic patients in comparison with non-diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the relationship between socket blood sugar and post-extraction complications in type II diabetic and non-diabetic patients.
    Materials And Methods
This cross-sectional study was carried out on 80 diabetic and 80 non-diabetic patients in Yazd Dental School. All patients had posterior tooth extraction. Prolonged bleeding, pain, fever and swelling were studied at the end of 4th day and dry socket and lack of healing at the end of the 7th day after extraction. Data was analyzed with SPSS 13 software using chi squared, Mann-Whitney and Fisher’s exact tests.
    Results
The frequency of prolonged bleeding and incidence of dry socket between two groups at socket blood sugar levels under 126 mg/dL and comparison of the frequency of prolonged pain, fever and infection between two groups at socket blood sugar levels ≥126 mg/dL showed statistically significant differences (P<0.05). Swelling and lack of healing were not associated with diabetes mellitus in none of the socket blood sugar levels (P>0.1).
    Conclusion
It is suggested that dentists use glucometers to determine socket blood sugar levels in diabetic patients to predict and prevent complications after tooth extraction in diabetic patients.

    Objective
The aim of current study was evaluation of group-based diabetes self-management education (group-based DSME) effectiveness in improving glycemic control among type 2 diabetic patients attending the Yazd Diabetes Research Center in 2014.
    Materials And Methods
The study design was quasi-experimental with control group. In this study, 62 diabetic patients were randomly allocated into intervention and control groups. Patients in intervention group participated in 12 weekly workshops over 3 months and patients in control group received routine diabetes care. HbA1c levels were assessed at baseline and after 12 weeks in both intervention and control groups at the beginning and at the end of the study.
    Results
Findings of this study demonstrated that group-based diabetes self-management education (group-based DSME) could be effective in improving glycemic control among type 2 diabetic patients (P<0.001).
    Conclusion
Therefore given the positive results of this study and high prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Yazd, it is essential that appropriate planning and policies to be adopted.

    Objective
Obesity is related to anemia which is explained its mechanism as disorder in iron absorption but the more rational reason is anemia of inflammation or anemia of chronic disease. The aim of this study was to define the prevalence of obesity in patients with normochromic normocytic anemia.
    Materials And Methods
We screened 406 patients who were referred to endocrine clinic. They were excluded from study if suffering from malignancy, hypo or hyperthyroidism, diabetes, growth hormone disorder, rheumatologic disorder or corticosteroid consumption. The complete blood count were checked in each participants. The patients with normochromic, normocytic anemia were diagnosed. Data was analyzed by SPSS17 software.
    Results
Among this population, 26 persons had normochromic, normocytic anemia and 11 (42.3%) patients had central obesity. In remainder of persons (Without normochromic, normocytic anemia), 58.4% had central obesity.Overall, 49 patients had anemia and central obesity together. About 53% of them had normochromic normocytic anemia.
    Conclusion
Central obesity is a common and complex phenomenon which is due to multiple etiologies. But based on our study, although the prevalence of central obesity was lower in patients with normochromic normocytic anemia, in 42.3% of them there was no source of inflammation except central obesity. Most patients with anemia and central obesity had normochromic normocytic anemia.

    Objective
Mindfulness is a part of mind-body medicine to increase the quality of life in patients with chronic diseases like diabetes. Regarding the importance of quality of life in patients with diabetes, and the role of training on its improvement, this study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of group training of mindfulness on quality of life in type 2diabeticpatients.
    Material And Method
This is a semi-experimental study, of Pretest -posttest type with Control group. Thirty diabetic patients, who were members of Yazd Diabetes Research Center, took part in this study during 2013-2014. They were selected randomly (15 were in experimental and 15 in control group). The experimental group had mindfulness training process, in 8 sessions of 45 minutes. Both groups filled the DQOL questionnaire before and after training. The data were analyzed by SPSS (version16).
    Results
the mean of quality of life score in the experimental group was more than control group in post testing. The difference was statistically significant. In other words, change in scores is because of independent variable (group training of mindfulness).
    Conclusion
It can be said that group training of mindfulness is effective on improving quality of life in patients with diabetes type 2.

    Objective
Diabetes is now known as one of the chronic diseases that besides body have negative effects on the psychological status of patients and it is one of the predisposition diseases which can lead to opportunistic infection like pathogens parasites. The aim of present study was Frequency distribution of intestinal parasitic infections in diabetic patients – in Yazd.
    Materials And Methods
This descriptive and cross sectional study was performed on 500 stool samples of Diabetic patients and healthy individuals with cluster random sampling in Yazd diabetes research centers from December 2012 to December 2013. Stool samples were collected, fixed and examined by Formalin- ether method (FEM) for detecting pathogen.
    Results
In this study 500 stool samples [250 (92 men and 158 women) from control and 250 (91 men and 159 women) from diabetic patients] were collected. The results of this study indicated that intestinal parasites rate in diabetic patients is higher (61:24.4%) than healthy control group (58:23.2%).
    Conclusion
The results showed a high prevalence of risk factors for diabetes complications and intestinal parasitic. Due to in Immunocompromised patients, it need for establishment of Diagnostic methods are emphasized.

    Objective
The previous studies indicated that the TLRs especially Toll-like receptor 4) TLR4 (are involved in the process of diabetes. The aim of the present research was to investigate the time course expression pattern of TLR4-a main component of innate immune system- in mRNA levels in the heart tissue of diabetic male wistar rats.
    Materials And Methods
In this research, adult Wistar rats (6-8 weeks old and 200-250 g weight) were mated and the pups were grown to 6-8 weeks old. Heart tissues were collected and analyzed by real-time PCR to evaluate the mRNA levels of TLR4. The mRNA levels of TLR4 in total heart tissue were evaluated in STZ-treated control rats in various times after diabetes induction.
    Results
Results showed that the up-regulation of TLR4 during the time course after diabetes induction as compared to the control. The abundant expression of TLR4, a major component of innate immunity system, provides strong evidence that TLRs play important roles in the pathogenesis and expansion of diabetes and it is possible that the expression of TLRs eventually lead to cardiovascular disease.
    Conclusion
The abundant expression of TLR4 which is major component of innate immunity system, provides strong evidence that TLRs play important roles in innate immunity and the pathogenesis and expansion of diabetes. It is possible that the expression of TLRs eventually lead to cardiovascular disease. The mechanisms for the increase in TLR expression and activity in diabetes have not been studied in depth. Modulating these TLRs could be beneficial in prevention of diabetic complications.
