The main question dealt with in the present article is how far one can appeal to design argument in order to prove attributes of God. No doubt¡ this argument is significant in demonstrating the existence of a designer. In addition on the basis of the unity of order beheld throughout the universe one can use it to prove the oneness of designer. It can also demonstrate God’s knowledge though it is not proof for Essential knowledge of God¡ since presupposes extra-mental realization of that attribute in which case it will be regarded as Attribute of Act and additional to the Essence. Moreover¡ this argument fails to demonstrate infinity of power and knowledge¡ for it is the mirror of its cause and however great it is¡ in last analysis it is limited and finite and cannot show infinite cause.

Most of Muslim philosophers including Allama Tabatabae maintain a particular version of foundationalism in realm of concepts and propositions. According to Tabatabae’s account, cognitions, concepts or judgments, are divided into two categories of self-evident and speculative ones. Self-evident cognitions are not in need of any other acts of knowledge while speculative perceptions should eventually end in self-evident cognitions. Basing the speculative on the self-evident in respect with concepts are through definition whereas in propositions this is realized through demonstration. Foundationalism is challenged in various ways including the denial of basic beliefs and their incorrigibility. The principal question is whether Islamic foundationalism particularly with reference to Tabatabae’s account is able to meet the new challenges and give solution to the problem. In view of the fact that Muslim foundationalists have based their foundationalism on self-evident particularly primary perceptions on one hand and they identify truth criterion of speculative statements with reference to the self-evidence of contents and forms one can argue that the afore-mentioned criticisms are not leveled against Islamic foundationalism and it has the possibility of responding the challenges.

In responding the question “How possibly could this world with its all sorts of evils have been created by God who makes best possible form?”, Mulla Sadra, like most Muslim thinkers, makes use of the notion of totality of universe known as “the best possible order” and by giving a thoroughgoing analysis he expounds the view of the best possible scheme or reality thus providing the best ever presented solution to the problem of evil and the explanation of entire goodness of whole universe. Using Mulla Sadra’s principles namely fundamental reality of being as pivotal to the concept of best possible world, the present article is to examine so-called a priori arguments (propterquid) such as argument from Foreknowledge, and the argument ascribed to Al-Ghazzali as well as argument from affinity and the Nobler contingency. It continues to deal with a postriori arguments and all counterarguments presented against the idea of best possible order. Finally it came to the conclusion that the best scheme of reality is one that has more perfection and goodness, more extensive and higher in all realms of existence in comparison to limitations and imperfections in natural world.

Mulla Sadra has adopted three different approaches in accounting for rational perception. The first of them is the vision of rational forms in a distance. In this stance, luminous Images and intellectual entities are the object of vision. In the second approach, however, unification with Active Intellect is the ground for the explanation of rational perception. On this account, human soul is united with Active Intellect and as result intelligible forms are gained. In the third approach human soul obtains the intelligibles through immersion in Divine Essence and annihilation in God and consequently becomes creator of the forms of intellection. Different as these approaches appear, on reflection they turn out to be indicating and expressing the changes and variations of human soul. According to Mulla Sadra, in all these approaches rational knowledge is identified as presential knowledge and as such his view is different from other famous philosophers.

In view of some arguments a number of eminent scholars regard Islamic mysticism in its cognitive doctrines, ways in spiritual journey, method of understanding religious texts and even its origin as incompatible with Islam. Mystics, however, consider both the very intuition as mystical method and mystical doctrines such as Oneness of the Ultimate Reality, perfect man and resurrection as consistent and supported by Islamic Sharia. In practical dimension, they strengthen the status of spiritual journey on one hand, and introduce observation of the Sharia rules as a criterion for authenticity of spiritual wayfaring. In addition, on understanding scriptural texts they believe that esoteric meanings of holy Quran cannot be grasped without considering the literal meanings because such layers of meaning constitute one single revealed truth of the Book. As to the origin of mysticism they remark that mere similarities of doctrines, practices of Islamic mysticism with other school can regarded as reliable evidence for its lack of authenticity with

The problem of “gradation of being” is one of significant among philosophical questions. In transcendent philosophy it has precise and especial formulation. Commentators of Mulla Sadra have presented different versions of it. Agha Ali Mudarres’ version is perhaps of the most exact commentary on the issue. Defending the view of specific gradation of being and explain its various implications, he call into question the view of individual unity of being by mystics. In his different works Agha Ali Mudarrres has dealt with the divisions and hierarchical levels of being on the basis of the view of specific gradation, subjecting the mystical outlook of individual unity of being to serious criticisms.
The present article is an attempt to give an exact account of his view by consulting his different works, and finally provide a brief examination the problem in question.

Formal unveiling is a spiritual state that is achieved by a mystical wayfarer when he encounters realities and as result of the relation of microcosmic world of imagination with macrocosmic world of imagination. On many occasions these unveilings are true and divine. However if there is an influence of illusion or sensual passions of the soul through which pave the way for Satan to cast its net to make illusions appear as undeniable truths, then the mystic is need of reason to distinguish satanic unveilings from divine ones through examination and rational analysis. In order to recognize right unveilings from wrong ones mystic need definite and well-grounded criteria. To this end, theoretical mysticism has provided some principles and standards including reasoning and well-established rules of reason. According to mysticism, reason has intrinsic authority so that not only it is not in conflict with the truths of unveilings but also supports them since the relation of reason to mysticism is that of logic to philosophy.
