    Introduction
In direct pup capping, the exposed pulp is directly capped with a capping material to provoke a dentinal bridge formation to seal the exposed area. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pulpal response to MTA and capsaicin in cats.
    Methods
The sample for this experimental study consisted of 24 canines of cats, weighed approximately 3-4kg. After sedation, the teeth were cut and exposed at 3mm above cementoenamel junction, then divided into two groups: 1) direct pulp capping with MTA 2) direct pulp capping with Capsaicin. The cavities were filled with glass ionomer cement (Fuji IX). The cats were sacrificed in the first, second, and fourth weeks 4 canine teeth were extracted for the purpose of histologic analysis. 6Serial sections were cut parallel to the longitudinal axis of the canines. The sections were stained with hematoxylin & eosin, and were observed and analyzed using a light microscope.
    Results
In both groups treated with MTA and capsaicin, the inflammation decreased during weeks1, 2, and 4. Less inflammation was seen in MTA group but there was no statistical difference between the two groups (p=0.22). In the group treated with capsaicin, necrosis was observed in every 12 samples, but in the other group treated with MTA, only 1 pulp necrosis was seen in the first week (p=0.000). There was no significant difference in dentinal barrier formation, inflammatory response, and soft tissue changes between the two groups.
    Conclusions
The results of this study showed that capsaicin can decrease the severity of inflammation, but it is ineffective in dentinal barrier formation.

    Introduction
Porcelain fracture is a relatively common problem in clinical dental practice. Various methods have been proposed for repairing porcelain fractures including direct composite resin repair or construction of a porcelain laminate veneer and its cementation with a resin cement. Evaluation of shear bond strength of porcelain repair methods was the purpose of this study.
    Methods
Twenty feldspathic porcelain discs (10 mm in diameter) were fabricated. The samples underwent air-born abrasion with an aluminum oxide and etching with HF, and were then ultrasonically cleaned and randomized into two groups: 1- repair with porcelain disc (7 mm in diameter) with light cure cement (Choice 2); and 2- repair with resin composite (Clearfil AP-X). We measured the shear bond strength of the samples by Zwick Roll at 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed.
    Results
The resin composite group had the highest shear bond strength (12.91 MPa). We found no significant differences between the choice and composite groups (p=0.970).
    Conclusions
Our findings indicate that resin composite yields acceptable shear bond strength to be used in porcelain repair.

    Introduction
Salivary biomarkers may elucidate orodental inflammatory processes. Nitric oxide (NO) may help us to diagnose such changes.
    Methods
In this case-control study, all referral patients diagnosed with 130% sites were enrolled as generalized mild to moderate periodontitis group (PG). All PG and healthy control group (CG)’ individuals underwent scaling and root planning (SRP). The periodontal indices were recorded at baseline (day0) in both PG and CG, in addition to 14 days after SRP (day 14): salivary nitric oxide level on same occasions also recorded.
    Results
Twenty seven individuals were enrolled as PG and 17 individuals were assessed in CG. All indices were improved with SRP after 14 days. Except for NO, none of the periodontal indices subsided to the normal values of CG.
    Conclusions
Nitric oxide is a sensitive biomarker in tracing periodontal inflammation.

    Introduction
This study aimed to evaluate and compare the apical sealing ability of different irrigation regimens (NaOCl, CHX, NS, and MTAD).
    Methods
Seventy intact extracted single-rooted human teeth were selected. The roots were resected at 3 mm short of the apical foramen after access preparation. The canals were prepared with profile. This rotary file moved forward into the apical foramen so that the D16 section of the file passed the foramen of the resected part of the root. The teeth were randomly divided into 4 study groups. After placing them in humid sponge, the canals were irrigated with study irrigators for 5 minutes. The canals were dried and 5mm MTA was placed into the apex. After 24 hours, the teeth were placed indian ink solution. The teeth were cleaned and the microleakage was tested using stereomicroscope.
    Results
The results showed no significant difference between the group of 2% Chlorhexidine and the other groups. 0.5% Naocl group showed significantly less leakage than MTAD and normal saline groups.
    Conclusions
The results of this study suggested that 0.5% NaOCl provided the best final irrigation before the apical placement of MTA.

Stainless steel alloy used in orthodontics has elements such as iron - magnesium and chromium, which may be released due to corrosion in the mouth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes of these elements in the saliva of patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment.
    Methods
In a clinical study with simple non-random sampling, 1ml saliva of 11 patients (7 females and 4 males) who needed fixed orthodontic treatment and had no restorations or crowns were collected. During the fixed orthodontic treatment at successive times (a day, a week, a month, two months and six months), 1 ml of saliva was collected and evaluated for the amount of iron (spectrophotometry), chromium (atomic absorption), and magnesium (spectrophotometry). Bracket, band and wire used in all patients were stainless steel alloy and were manufactured by Dentaurum Company. After sample collection, the data analysis was performed with "Azeri-5" and "10 SPSS" software and repeated measures test.
    Results
The mean concentration of iron 66.326±0.541, chromium 0.483±0.324 and magnesium 0.552±293 decreased during the study but these results were not statisticaly significant (p>0.05).
    Conclusions
Iron, chromium and magnesium concentration do not exceed the standard limits in saliva during orthodontic treatment.

    Introduction
The degree of polymerization depends on the type of light-curing unit. The aim of this study was to compare the hardness of composite resin cured by LED and Halogen light curing units.
    Methods
In this experimental study, 20 cylindrical samples of Tetric Ceram composite were prepared. Half of them were cured with Ultralume 2 LED and the other half with Astralis 7 Halogen light curing unit. In the depths of 0,1,2 and 3 mm from surface, one point in peripheral and one point in central portion were marked, then the hardness of these points was measured by Vickers test. The data was analyzed by a pvalue less than 0.05 considered as significant.
    Results
The mean hardness of samples cured by LED was more than halogen group in different depths and this difference was statistically significant in peripheral points (p=.048) but this was not significant in central points (p=0.644). The mean hardness in both groups had a decreasing trend from surface to the deep parts in central and peripheral parts and this was more in the central parts.
    Conclusions
Composites cured by LED light curing unit showed more hardness in similar depths, besides the hardness of composites in central parts is more than the peripheral ones in both groups.

    Introduction
Low resistance of composite resins to abrasion is a primary concern in the application of these materials for posterior restorations which are prone to high occlusal loads. This study compared the wear resistance of three types of composites.
    Methods
In this laboratory experiment, five specimens of each of the three types of composites (z250, Heliomolar, Opallis) were prepared separately in brass molds. Composites were placed in 1-mm layers and were cured for 40 seconds. Using an abrasive device, Pedeb 1, with a chrome-cobalt abrasor, the specimens were abraded under a 20-MPa force, after 5000, 20000, 40000, 80000, 120000 abrasive rotations. Before and after all abrasion cycles, the specimens were weighed with an electronic balance with a precision of 10-4 g. The collected data were analyzed using paired samples statistics t-test and ANOVA analysis.
    Results
All the specimens showed a reduction pattern from the initial weights to weights after 120000 abrasive rotations. With more abrasive rotations, greater weight reduction occurs and this is of statistical significance. ANOVA analysis showed no significant difference between the three types of composites; yet, the z250 and Heliomolar groups were associated with the least and the greatest amount of wear, respectively.
    Conclusions
In all specimens, significant weight reduction occurred after abrasion but there were no significant differences between the 3 types of composites.

    Introduction
Due to undeniable effect of surface treatment on restoration bond strength, this study was conducted to measure and compare the shear bond strength of hybrid ionomer and compomer using the three different methods of surface conditioning.
    Methods
In this in vitro experimental study, 72 samples were prepared from hybrid ionomer (Vitremer-3M) and compomer (Compoglass-Vivadent) restoration materials on the basis of three methods of surface conditioning (etching with 37% phosphoric acid/using silicon carbide paper/micro abrasion with 50 μmaluminum oxide particles). After thermo cycling and simulating the oral environment, maximum shear bond strength of samples was measured by instron machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm per minute on mega Pascal. The data were analyzed by SPSS software and ANOVA completely randomized design and two independent samples t-test. This significance level was considered p<0.05.
    Results
There was statistically significant difference between the shear bond strength of two types of restoration material, acid phosphoric and silicon carbide, after the different surface treatments (p=0.016 and p=0.002). In micro abrasion surface preparation method, no statistically significant difference was found in restoration shear bond strength. The shear bond strength of compomer group was also significantly more than hybrid ionomer group (p=0.015).
    Conclusions
Reconstruction capability of Compoglass was better than Vitremer.
