    The impact of text length very often biases results of stylometric indices which are based on rank-frequency distribution (e.g. type-token ratio, repeat rate, entropy). The aim of the article is to observe the relation between text size and thematic concentration indicators (TC, STC). The corpus consists of 1471 English texts of various genres. The obtained results show that thematic concentration is independent of text length in the interval . Given that the analysis corroborates the findings of the previous research in Czech language, TC and STC seem to be reliable stylometric indicators applicable to text analyses of different languages.

    The connection between the frequencies of the sounds and the emotional “mood” of the texts has been a matter of concern for poets, writers and linguists. In this research, we are aimed at revealing the linkage between the frequencies of English and German consonants and the “emotional” mood of poems. In order to achieve the given aim, we have analyzed 40 English and 40 German poems by different authors. The data were processed with the help of chi-square test and Chuprov’s coefficient K. As a result, we have found that there is a correspondence between the frequencies (or occurrences) of certain English and German sounds and the emotional “mood” of the poems. The results of the research may be of great use in composing the poems with a special emphasis on the creation of the emotional “mood” of the text.

    The current study endeavored to explore the relationship between polytextuality and polysemy on the one hand and polytextuality and synonymy on the other. To this end, 5000 sentences from five text types including literary, religious, press,
    scientific and cultural were selected from a Persian corpus after which all the common nouns were extracted for analysis. The results revealed that there was small correlation found among polytextuality, polysemy and synonymy. The higher incidence of polytextuality is not associated with a higher degree of polysemy or synonymy. The text type did not make a difference with regard to the given variables. The results of the study should be replicated using a larger corpus for substantiation purposes.

    Zipf's law, an empirical law formulated using mathematical statistics, refers to the fact that many types of data studied in the physical and social sciences can be approximated with a Zipfian distribution, one of the families of related discrete power law probability distributions. In this paper, the first zipf's law has been studied in Persian. In this respect, almost 20000 words have been selected from different Persian texts and evaluated. The obtained results show that the zipf's law is present in Persian language.

    Flexible parts-of-speech systems, as defined by Hengeveld, are analyzed from the combinatorial point of view. All theoretically possible word orders in simple intransitive sentences are considered with the aim of determining whether word-order restrictions can be used as the only device that can eliminate the possible functional ambiguity in those languages. The answer is affirmative only for moderately flexible parts-of-speech systems. Specific sample languages are also analyzed, particularly with respect to the use of morphological markers in the absence or ineffectiveness of the word-order disambiguation strategy. It is shown that in most cases markers are either missing or not used to eliminate ambiguity.
