The Role of Urban Defenceless Spaces in Violent Behaviors

Several factors are at work to form violent behaviors the most important of which is defenseless space. There are certain amounts of violence in each urban space, but the density of violence is high in defenseless spaces.The present study tries to explore the features attributed to urban defenseless spaces in order to identify the causes of difference in the types of violence committed in different defenseless spaces. 12 hot spots (defenseless spaces) from among 108 hot spots in Tehran were examined.The findings of the study demonstrated that the features of defenseless spaces can be categorized into three categories: physical, social, and physical-social; each of these categories can also be furthered grouped into specific, semi specific, public, and semipublic features.
