The Portrait of Khezr in Islamic Mysticism Literature
Author(s):
Abstract:
The word Khezr is derived from akhzarand khazra, meaning green. Khezr is an outstanding figure in religious and mystic texts and literature. Despite the fact that Khezr has been talked about very much and his name has been frequently mentioned in religious and mystic literature, he is a legendary and mythical character. Unlike other prophets, who have a clear history and biography, Khezr is shrouded in ambiguity. He is said to be a prophet, a friend of God, and/or an angel. Using reliable religious and mystic texts, the present article tries to picture a somewhat clear portrait of Khezr and to determine his mystic status.
