The Analysis of Anima's Archetype in Rumi's Ghazals

This paper introduces anima’s archetype and its representation in the notion of unconscious introduced by Jung. It analyses this archetype in some cases of the world literature and mythology and moreover in some cases of contemporary Iranian literature. Both positive and negative roles of anima are considered and some of its properties in the world and their representation in Shams’ ghazals are mentioned. Given the evidences in the text, anima in Rumi’s ghazals has certain features such as subjugation, enchantment, the source of life, holiness and mediation between conscious and unconscious. Moreover, it is represented through symbols of birds such as parrot and phoenix, and other symbols like the fairy, deer, the moon, air, water and wind and the words such as fetish and idol.
