Eclecticism and crisis in humanities
Author(s):
Abstract:
The necessity of change in the current status of humanities has been one of the contemporary’s concerns. In this paper, the aim of the writers is to discuss the necessity of such a change, which involves purging it from eclecticism. There is no doubt that the current practice, which involves copying the theories of humanities developed in other countries and cultures cannot provide a solution to the problem because such theories, while they may be acceptable within their respective cultures, do not necessarily conform to the ideals and principles of Islam. While Islam recommends that we use other nations’ scientific achievements, it places great emphasis on the divine nature of man. Thus mixing the secular principles with Islamic principles in the field of humanities would provide a major problem facing humanities as taught in our universities and purging humanities from secular thinking would be a great step toward Islamization of the universities.
