Islamicization of knowledge" from View Point of Attas and Farouki (Comparative Study)

The present article aims to analyze the ideas and opinions of Attas (from Malaysia) and Farouki (from America) about Islamicization of knowledge. They believe that western knowledge – particularly in human sciences- should be Islamic. Therefore, they suggested some Islamic patterns to find a solution for challenges confronting Islamic idea and thought. The author of the article attempts to analyze the ideas of Attas and Farouki from viewpoint of ontology, epistemology and methodology. The method of the research is documentary. The results of the article show that Farouki focuses on ontology aspects while Attas respects methodology aspects. Farouki introduces twelve-fold in methodology to islamicize the knowledge while Attas insists on ethical norms (instead of just education) in Islamic university. The weak point of both of them is in their methodology and unclear hierarchy of knowledge. In other words, Farouki twelve-fold in methodology and Islamic university in Attas opinion is not the sort of Islamic science producer methodology. The author of the article concludes that Islamic knowledge is based on fundamental principles of ontology, epistemology and methodology of Islamic knowledge and hierarchy of knowledge. There are some ambiguities in Farouki and Attas in this field but overall their efforts and ideas have been effective in forming the discourse of Islamicization of knowledge in Islamic world.
