Evaluation of education on patient,s anxiety before abdominal surgical operations

Today, surgery is one way to treatment of patients that is a stressful experience and Causes numerous Psychological reactions Such as anxiety. Purpose of the study was to determine the effect of education on level of Patient's anxiety before abdominal surgical operations. In this experimental study, 80 people (40 people in exam group and 40 people in Control group) was Selected from Candidate Patients for abdominal Surgical operations randomly and Continuously in surgical wards of Ganjavian hospital in Dezful city. Data were collected by questionnaire included individuals characteristic, disease and criteria of Visual analogue scale, anxiety level and type of intervention was face to face education about pain management. Anxiety level was measured in two groups before surgical operation, through criteria of visual analogue scale and self- report. Data were analyzed by statistic methods through SPSS software. In this research, average of anxiety level before operation in Control group was 6.80 with standard deviation of 2.8 and in exam group was 4.30 with standard deviation of 1.6. Findings of this research showed that education was effective on anxiety level before abdominal surgical operation. Therefore, education caused a reduction in anxiety level. It is suggested that for reduction of patient's anxiety before surgical operations could apply this intervention as a non- medicine in surgical wards.
