The Role of Social Virtual Networks in Tunisian Revolution

Abstract:
One of the newly emerging phenomenon in the virtual space which provided the possibility of virtual communities are the social virtual networks which are considered as a driving force in social and political changes in societies. In this context the social and political changes which began in 2010 in Tunisia and then affected the a big part of the Arab Middle East raised many important questions about the role of these new technologies and new media structures in contemporary political movements. Therefore one of the important subjects in relation with social and political changes is the role of new generations of media. This paper is an attempt to explore the role that social virtual media played in Tunisian Revolution. The hypothesis of the paper is that the social networks played a very important role in Tunisian revolution through facilitating and speeding up the communication between protestor and helping them to coordinate and manage their plans.
