The Role of TV in Popularization of Football in Iran

Abstract:
The present article aims to examine the relationship between television and football in Iran. It seeks, further, to study the role of the media in popularization of football in Iranian society. Given the current process of popularization of football in Iran, the study, in fact, aims to reveal why and how television attracts football fans and what role this media plays in this significant process. In the present enquiry the researchers adopted both qualitative and quantitative approaches including descriptive methodologies and surveys in IRIB Reseach Center. Research findings indicate that media, television in particular, is the main factor behind popularization of this sport in Iranian society. Thus, people have become interested in TV football programs, and television has tried and been able to attract audience from various walks of life. The survey findings, further, show that much of the audience watching TV sports programs is, in fact, football fans, and is, therefore, satisfied with the contents of such programs.
