An Investigation on the Relationship between Manager's Emotional Intelligence and Styles of Conflict Management in Universities

Abstract:
The research was carried out to study the correlation between manager's emotional intelligence and conflict management styles in universities. The research method of the study was descriptive (correlation). The subjects included 115 Department managers who worked in Islamic Azad Universities in the 10th zone of Iran. According to "Morgan Table", 92 Samples were chosen by random for the sampling method. The instruments used in the study were 2 standard Questionnaires namely; the assessment manager's emotional intelligence (Bar & others, 1997) containing 25 items in five scales, and the styles of conflict management Questionnaire (Robins, 1994) containing 30 items in five scales. The data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics method through SPSS. Findings from this study indicate that, there is a significant correlation between manager's emotional intelligence dimensions and styles of conflict management among Islamic Azad universities in the 10th zone of Iran. The findings also indicate that 82.2% of conflict management variance depends on manager's emotional intelligence.
