Assessing Organizational Citizenship Behavior among Staffs of University of Tehran: Using Mixed Method Approach

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to assess organizational citizenship behavior among staffs of University of Tehran. The mixed method approach, the triangulation design (Validating Quantitative Data Model), was used in this study. The Statistical population consisted of all 1538 staffs of University of Tehran, of which 126 subjects were selected randomly. The data collection tools included the questionnaire of Podsakoff et al. (1990) and one open-ended question. To analyze the data, quantitative methods (mean, std. deviation, one- sample t-test, pairedsamples t-test, independent-samples t-test, one- way ANOVA, and Scheffe), and qualitative methods (categorizing, classification and organization) were used. The findings showed that current organizational citizenship behavior and its dimensions (conscientiousness, courtesy, sportsmanship, altruism, and civic virtue) are significant at 0.05 level and the desired organizational citizenship behavior and its dimensions are significant at 0.05 levels. There is a significant difference between organizational citizenship behavior and its dimensions in current and desired situation. The findings indicated that women exhibited higher levels of organizational citizenship behavior than men, in terms of schooling. Experts with higher education are more organized in Citizenship Behaviors than ones holding undergraduate degrees. Finally, using viewpoint of experts, individual, job, managerial and organizational solutions were offered for improving their OCB.
