A Study of the Relationship between Servant Leadership Characteristics of Principals and Teachers Empowerment in High Schools

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine the association ship between the service leadership characteristics of principals and teachers empowerment. The research method was “descriptive”. The statically population of the study was 310 teachers (N=310) from Mahabad High schools from whom a sample of 173 teachers were randomly selected. Two questionnaires were considered as the measuring instruments. In order to collect data, Service Leadership Assessment Instrument including six sub-scales (Love, Humility, Altruism, Vision, Service, and Trust) and Empowerment Inventory were used. The reliability of the Servant Leadership Assessment questionnaire and the Empowerment questionnaire were 86%. And 0.70 respectively based on the Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient. For analyzing the data, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, relative correlation and multivariate regression were used. Results indicated that there was a statistically significant positive and strong association between the principal’s behaviors in line with sub-scales of vision and trust with the teachers empowerment. There was a negative statically significant relationship between service and empowerment. Also, sub-scales were found to predict more than 70 percent of variances in the teachers’ empowerment. The other four sub-scales related to service leadership had no statistically significant association with the teachers’ empowerment when partial correlations of variables were measured.
