An Investigation on the Supervisory Belief system of the Principals of Elementary Schools in Tehran

Abstract:
This research aimed at studying principals’ supervisory belief in Tehran elementary schools through all 19 districts. The population for the study included Tehran elementary school principals among 19 districts, and sample population was 65 subjects, chosen randomly from five elementary schools (districts 3, 5, 10, 13 and 19). Using principal supervisory belief questionnaire, three supervisory approaches were measured: democratic, collaborative and bureaucratic. Findings showed that all three approaches of supervisory beliefs were above mean, collaborative belief with 4.21, democratic belief with 4.20 and the bureaucratic belief with 3.74 mean score. There wasn’t any significant disparity among principal’s supervisory belief systems in terms of gender, experience and education. The findings showed that the belief system of principals is more participatory and collaborative. Therefore, the means of applying this style should be introduced to make schools more effective.
