Abstract:
Goddesses and female power have had a powerful position in mythology and they were considered by many researchers in recent decades. One of the manifestations of female power is “The Mother Goddess” or “The Earth Goddess” or “The Great Mother” which was known by many ancient civilizations in a long period of human life -probably from Ancient Stone Age to Bronze Age. “The Mother Goddess” was not only considered as the mother and creator of the universe and life, but also the goddess of death. She was a self-reliant and sometimes a transgressed goddess. She was also considered the god of the underlying world. Many manifestations of nature such as water, plants, animals and etc. Were connected to her. This survey is based on the library method. It attempts to perceive the most fundamental characteristics of The Great Mother or “The Female Power” as a whole by an analytical method. It also tries to reach a complete conclusion by collecting samples and different examples of myths in different countries. In the introduction, while mentioninga brief history of theories related to female power, we provide overviews, complexities, and dichotomies of this power and offer specific examples. And, finally, the various female manifestations of nature are pointed out.
