Metamorphism of mantle peridotites in Jandaq ophiolite (Central Iran)

Jandaq ophiolite is one of the old ophiolites in Iran belonging to Proterozoic and Paleozoic, and subjected to different phases of metamorphism. The studied ophiolite is covered by Paleozoic schists and marbles and the mantle peridotite is one of the most predominant rock unit of the Jandaq ophiolite. The presence of metamorphic olivine and metamorphic orthopyroxene, tremolite formation, talc, anthophyllite, chlorite and antigorite in these peridotites reveal their metamorphism in amphibolite facies. Clinopyroxenes and Cr-spinels are resistant against metamorphism and are relicts of preliminary igneous mineralogy. The results of metamorphism study on the mantle peridotites, are in consistent with petrography and geothermobarometry of plagioclase-amphibole data in Jandaq ophiolite amphibolites.
