A frequency of sheep nephrolithiasis and determination of calculi composition in Alashtar slaughterhouse

Abstract:
In this research that was done in summer and autumn, 800 kidneys of slaughtered sheep in slaughterhouse of Alashtar were selected accidently and calculus presence studied macroscopically. The frequency and statistical relation between age, sex, calculus presence and kidney direction in creation of calculus were studied. The frequency of calculus was determined about 6%. The all of them were calcium. This may due to: 1- alkaline soil of region, 2- calcium salt in water and food, 3- sheep nourishing of this region and two common plants (beetroot and ribas) and consequently sheep poisoning that had calculus with exalic acid. The obtained results were evaluated at the light of age, sex and kidney direction. The greatest amount of abundance was determined in left kidney and in sheep that were 3 to 4 years old.
