Histopathological study of squamous cell carcinoma in Lori-Bakhtiari sheep

Abstract:
Squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant tumor of skin with origin of the epidermal keratinocyte cells which is induced by prolonged exposed of sun light. A 4-year-old ram with a raised and cauliflower like skin lesion in the lumbar area was referred for clinical and histopathological examination and possible treatment. After clinical and gross examination this mass was removed by surgical operation. Histopathology of the excisional biopsy showed that, islands of neoplastic epithelial cells were extending into the dermis with a large number of cytoplasm with bright eosinophilic and uncertain border. In addition a few numbers of atypical mitotic figures were observed. On the basis of the gross and microscopic findings, the tumor mass was diagnosed as a moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Therefore, it's of main importance to keep and breed the animals properly, and regarding the geographical location of such toward the carcinogenic role of sun, it’s necessary to study the influential elements on these basis, the ways of preventing or treating of the disease is submitted and rendered.
