The effects of Prosopis Juliflora powder on broiler performance

This experiment was conducted in completely random design for evaluating the effect of the flour of prosopis jolifloras fruit on the performance and carcass characteristics of broilers. This experiment included 320 male broilers of Ross 308, fed on the diet containing 4 levels of the P. jolifloras fruit 0, 2, 4 and 6 percent. Each treatment was represented by 4 replicates of 20 male birds each. The results showed that increasing the level of the P. julifloras fruit resulted in a significant decrease of food intake as well as the average increase of broiler weight gain so that the broilers fed on the diet, containing 6 percent of the fruit, showed the lowest food intake and the weight increase but feed conversion of all treatment was not significantly different. Increasing the P. julifloras fruit in diets caused a significant increase in body weight and carcass weight. It also resulted in a significant increase of breast, thigh, gizzard and heart percentage. According to the results using P. julifloras is recommended for up to 2 % of broiler diet.
