Examining Validity of Young Schema Questionnaire- S3 in two Groups of Normal and Mental Disorder Subjects in Tehran

Examining psychometric properties of Young Schema Questionnaire - Short form 3 (YSQ- S3) makes it possible to have a precise estimation of early Maladaptive Schemas and then apply them in framework of treatment. To test the discriminative validity of this measure, the comparisons between the subjects were made for two groups of normal and mental disorder.The purpose of this research is to study the recognition power, reliability and validity of persian version of (YSQ– S3) into two groups of normal and mental disorder. The participants involved in the study included two groups of normal (n= 470), and mental disorder (n= 82) between the age of 20- 50 years old that had been chosen using a convenience sampling. The instruments used herein for data collection to survey concurrent validity consists of Dysfunctional Attitude Scale The data collected from questionnaires were analyzed using correlation coefficient test, multivariate analysis of variance(MANOVA) and discriminant analysis. In sum, Cronbach's alpha and specificity were suitable for schemas. The sensitivity was almost acceptable too. And the specificity appeared higher than sensitivity. The concurrent validity coefficient between Dysfunctional Attitude Scale and YSQ-S3 was. 65. The cut-off points were determined for screening, too. Although the validity coefficient in the questionnaire subscales is quite lower than previous studies, but all in all the results were in keeping with recent researches.
