Urban Conservation: Terminology and Approaches

As a multidisciplinary new field of knowledge, urban conservation enjoys a variety of technical jargon and evolving concepts. Key terminology employed in this urban conservation is not consistent in diverse texts. This inconsistency is aggravated in Persian texts as different authors have used dissimilar equivalents in translation of key concepts. To develop a shared basis for research and practice, this paper first presents a comparative study of Persian equivalents used for key terms in urban conservation. Then a comparative study of the definitions of key terms is presented. The evolution of key approaches to urban conservation is finally reviewed to demonstrate the basis of evolution in terminology.
