Role of Children's Traffic Education in Increasing Safety

Road accidents are one of the main causes of death and injury among children in developing countries. Iran has the first global rank in terms of road accidents statistics, with 800 thousand accidents occurring annually. Vehicles pose a danger for children in the environment outside of the home, and education is a key element that could reduce the existing threats for children from traffic. Therefore, this research provides a study of the methods of traffic education for children and their role in increasing traffic safety. This research was conducted using library references, and the results show that the age group of less than 10 years old constitutes 22 percent of the total number of pedestrians killed. The statistics indicate that many deaths occur in children aged 4 to 9 years old, and this study aims to determine the effectiveness of teaching traffic rules to children in order to reduce injuries from traffic accidents. The main factors contributing to traffic accidents in children have been determined to be evolutionary factors such as age, the behavior of family and community, the traffic environment, characteristics of behavior and psychology. Furthermore, this study discusses the importance of education in families, nurseries, schools and their wider social environment. It is concluded that traffic dangers can be reduced by education.
