A Study on the Component of Iranian Journalists Jargon

Any profession or art has its own particular professional language. Recognizing this language can help recognize the target society, improve means for endurance of the said group and identify its weak points. Since nothing substantial has been done so far regarding recognizing this language in the arena of Iranian journalism, this research study is aimed at collecting the common terminologies in the professional journalism ambiance in the country. Other aims of this project are improving indigenous journalism, identifying the most important strong and weak points in finding equivalents for words and terminologies in the arena of journalism and spreading the modus operandi for selecting words as the yardstick for the system of innovative thoughts in the journalism sector. The project also aims at discovering and registering Persian terminologies in the arena of journalism as well as facilitating continuation of the said activity and providing a rich and usable collection of journalistic words for centers that disseminate news and information, academia and various sections of media.In this paper, after extensive studying for recognizing the related literature and a basic collection of key words, by using the snowball method, the needed samples have been identified and questioned. Ultimately, about 400 terminologies are identified and equivalents have been found for them with this method. Afterwards, they are examined in terms of their meaning and linguistic considerations and they are also classified.The main target of this study is to collect common words and terminologies in the professional journalistic activities nationwide in the past 50 years. It seems that this goal has been fulfilled to some extent. Furthermore, through making use of analytical tables, strong and weak points in Iranian journalism have been identified and a rich collection for use of journalistic terminologies has been facilitated for the country’s centers for disseminating news and information, campuses and different sections of media. It has been tried to discover and register Persian terminologies in the arena of journalism and ensure continuation of this activity.
