Identification and Comparison of Foxp3 in Women with Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion and Controls

Abstract:
Background
Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA)، defined as two or more consecutive pregnancy losses before the 20th week of gestation. Foxp3 is a regulatory T-cell-dependent transcription factor that is essential for function of these cells. The aim of this study was to identify the polymorphism Foxp3 (-3279) gene in the women with recurrent abortion and controls.
Methods
In this case-control study، 80 women with history of at least two spontaneous abortion before the 20th week of gestation determined as case; they were negative for genetic، infectious، anatomic and hormonal disorders. Eighty non-pregnant healthy women with no history of abortion and having at least one child that referred to Yazd centeral laboratory for check-up were selected as control. The Foxp3 gene 3279 polymorphism using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique was performed. Data analysis was performed by chi-square.
Findings
The frequency of CC، AC and AA genotypes were 58. 8، 25، and 16. 2 percent in women with RSA and 52. 5، 21. 2 and 26. 2 percent in controls، respectively. No significant difference was found between the groups (P = 0. 3).
Conclusion
In this study، a statistically significant difference was not seen in the prevalence of polymorphisms rs3761548C/A between control and recurrent abortion groups.
