World Community Initiatives to Combat Human Smuggling

Human smuggling which is nowadays also known as White Trade, Human Mafia and Modern Slavery is one of the biggest transnational organized crimes. This crime is too profitable and does involve much risk and therefore international criminal organizations have paid much attention to it. This crime harms human dignity and threatens the politics, society, economy and culture of Third World and developing countries, so it is essential to combat this novel phenomenon. Meanwhile, national legislative of Iran has also detected the dangers of this crime and has ratified laws on combating human smuggling on January 2, 2004. This law contains criminalization of this kind of smuggling, beginning and participating in it and taking general preventive initiatives such as confiscation of properties obtained through this crime. Property confiscation has been viewed as a general preventive initiative to destroy criminals’ economic sources which will be explained thoroughly in this article.
