Ranking Determinants of Technology Commercialization Strategy: The Case of Biotechnology Industry

New technologies are considered as a vital strategic resource for economic development. To increase the new technologies effectiveness، they should be commercialized. There are different Commercialization strategies. Each strategy indicates different ways of exploitation. Commercialization strategy selection depends on situational factors. Selecting an appropriate commercialization strategy due to its importance is a strategic selection. Therefore، identification of these determinant factors is very important. In this study، firstly، we identified the local factors affecting the selection of commercialization strategy in 41 young biotechnology companies in Tehran province using interview and secondly we designed a questionnaire in a larger sample to assess the importance of these factors in commercialization strategy selection. The results of this paper show that resources including direct and indirect capabilities and synergy are the most important factors in commercialization strategy selection in biotechnology industry.
