Basic Vocabulary and Child's Lexicography in Persian Language

One of the common linguistic and educational concepts in early childhood education is basic vocabulary. This is a main factor in simple writing and acts as a tool for writers of educational and course books. In recent decades educators and researchers have paid a lot of attention to the issue of basic vocabulary، and at least ten key sources exist focusing on this issue. In this paper، while introduces theoretical concepts and child basic vocabulary books in Persian، three key texts، i. e. Sokhan’s Children Dictionary، School Dictionary and Children’s Writing Lexicon) are compared with Basic Vocabulary of Iranian Elementary Students (Nematzade et al، 1384/2005). The comparison follows three axes: part of speech، compound words، and words of the five semantic categories، i. e. family، body parts، animals، seasons and religion. Based on scientific criteria and using the data of a project in Center for Persian Language and Literature Researches، Tarbiat Modares University، we try to demonstrate which of the four works studied are more reliable and valid
