An Inquiry into the Demographic Views, Opportunities and Challenges Facing the Cities, with Emphasis on Sustainable Development

The present paper seeks to review the demographic views, opportunities and challenges confronting the cities, that is, the issues which are discussed within the framework of logical relationship between population and cities and should be taken into account by municipal managers and planners in order to make better plans for cities and to serve the citizens. Some of the research findings are as follows: having an optimistic view on the population growth when the necessary conditions are available, a proper distribution of demographic space and establishing social justice in cities, and plans to increase the population of the country because it is aging in the coming years. Using a descriptive-analytical method and reviewing the relevant books, articles, reports and documents, the present paper examines different demographic views, opportunities and challenges and their effects on urban environment and provides modus operands for building great cities.
