Evaluation of the Effects of Intramuscular Dexamethasone on Cervical Ripening and Induction of Labor

One of the problems is that in cases of cervical Midwifery induced termination of pregnancy is necessary. Thus the methods of cervical ripening and labor induction، they have always been sought. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of intramuscular dexamethasone on cervical ripening and induction of labor. This study was a single-blind، randomized clinical trial on 100 patients eligible nulliparous women 42 to 40 weeks in 2009 was admitted to the hospital in Ahvaz Amir. The group randomized to 8 mg dexamethasone was administered 12 h before induction. The controls were given 2 cc of normal saline at the same intervals. Data were analyzed by chi - square and t tests and p less than 0. 05 was considered significant. The two groups in terms of age، demographic characteristics، initial Bishop score، first and fifth minute Apgar score and meconium difference was not statistically valuable. The mean interval between the onset of the active phase induction group with 3/1 ± 0. 68 hours and in group 4/2 ±1/3 hours using the t test for significant differences between groups were observed (P=0. 001). By intramuscular dexamethasone improved Bishop score، reducing the time to onset of labor induction phase is activated.
