Role of Religion in the Direction of Music Consumption

(Case Study: Students of Mazandaran University) 

Abstract:
Objectives
This short piece of writing intends to analyze the role of religion in taking a variety of musical genres among students.
Methods
The study was conducted using a survey method, and data was collected using a questionnaire technique, Through Cochran formula and sample is estimated 373 people, but to enhance the accuracy, it rose to 400. Also, in this survey, multi-stage cluster sampling method was used.
Results
Data analysis revealed that religion can prevent individuals from consumption Western genres like techno, rap and heavy metal, and it can limit consumption of genres that apparently are Persian – but have Western color and flavor.
Conclusion
The author of the survey concludes given the current situation, it seems religious values, symbols and criticism can be appropriate solution for the ideology of luxury and innumerable consumption. The present study shows that religion could influence the direction and inhibition of consumption of certain genres.
