A Comparison of Leadership Styles in Board of Trustees and State-Run Schools of the Hamadan Province based on bass and Avolio model

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to compare the board of trustees and state-run elementary schools of the Hamadan province based on transformative, transactional, and Laissez-Faire leadership styles. A survey research method was used. Statistical population included(5137) all teachers of board of trustees and state-run elementary schools of the province of Hamadan.Based on Cochran formula about 582 subjects (226 teachers in board of trustee's schools and 356 teachers in state-run schools) were selected as sample of study.The research instrument was Bass & Avolio leadership styles questionnaire. Questionnaire reliability using Cronbach's alpha coefficient was estimated 0/965.The collected data were analyzed using t test and ANOVA. Findings showed that level of transformative, transactional, and Laissez-Faire leadership in all schools is above average. Independent t-test revealed that in board of trustee's schools, situation of transformative leadership and in state-run schools, status of transactional and Laissez-Faire leadership is better. In addition, in board of trustee's schools in terms of teacher's gender about transformational leadership, there was no significant difference; but was found significant difference in state-run schools. Also between teacher's gender with transactional and Laissez-Faire leadership, there was significant difference; and women teacher's average is more than men average. Finally results showed that there was significant difference based on teachers the education level and different leadership styles.Moreover due to years of work experience related to transformative leadership there was significant differences in Board of Trustees and State-Run Schools but there was no significant difference due to transactional and Laissez-Faire leadership.
