Understanding Social Trust: An Application Of Gidden's Structuration Theory

The goal of this article is to study the evaluation of the Islamic Azad University’s structural impact on students’ social trust. The present study is of the descriptive–casual type. The research method is survey. Statistical population includes all students of the Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch, in the year 2010. The data was collected by a questionnaire and, after examining the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, the survey was carried out among 678 students. The sampling method was a combination of clustering and non-proportional stratification.Findings indicate that social trust is higher in women than it is in men. It is higher among students of basic sciences than students of social sciences. Students’ evaluation of university structure and university agents appeared as two independent variables. The first has a direct impact and the second has an indirect impact on social trust, through the first variable.
