Mythological Semiology of Numbers and Colors in the Story of Rostam and Esfandiaar

After their birth among primitive men and their reappearance, myths gained a special position in art and literature in the form of ‎symbols and metaphors. The appearance and frequency of symbols, ideas and stories whose origins could be traced back in the ancient times make some masterpieces everlasting. Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh is one of the important mythological and epic masterpieces ‎that perceives full mythical symbols, especially in the story of Rostam and Esfandiar. This article examines the mythical relations ‎between a set of colors and numbers in Ferdowsi’s story and other story elements. These instances, sometimes chosen purposefully, move in the way of story completion, through a certain harmony with characters, their identity and the story incidents.
