Effectiveness Of Mixed Cognitive- behavior Therapy And Mindfulness Based stress reduction in Treating a Case of Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Abstract:
Objective

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mixed cognitive-behavior therapy and mindfulness based stress reduction on anxiety, automatic thoughts reduction and improvement of general health in a particular case of generalized anxiety disorder.

Methods

In a single- subject experimental trial of A-B type, the mixed effect of cognitive-behavior therapy and mindfulness techniques were carried out on a subject with generalized anxiety disorder. The subject was assessed at both stage A (base line) and B (last session) by Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS),Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire(ATQ) and General Health Questionnaire(GHQ).

Results

The subject’s BAI score decreased from 45 in stage A to 30 in fifth session,to 16 in tenth session and to 10 in the last stage.In addition,there was a significant reduction of scores in HARS, ATQ and GHQ.

Conclusion

The mixed cognitive-behavior therapy and mindfulness based stress reduction were effective in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.
