Effects of Field Commander's Leadership Style on the Satisfaction and Performance of Cadets (a case of Iranian Disciplinary University)

Relationship between leadership styles and variables such as satisfaction and performance has been extensively investigated; however, this study was an attempt to address the issue in the context of the Iranian Disciplinary University so that the relationship between the variables could be investigated as far as the cadets were concerned. To run this field study, the researchers employed a questionnaire (r= %93) and did respective literature review. For this purpose, out of 750 cadets, 304 were selected based on cluster sampling method. Besides, 72 immediate and nonimmediate commanders in the chain of command attended the study. Pearson correlational coefficient and Friedman test results revealed that there is statistically positive correlation among the variables such that interactive leadership style is positively correlated with the cadet's satisfaction in two dimensions of satisfaction both from the commander and the circumstance, but functional leadership style is negatively correlated with both dimensions. Concerning the performance, strongly positive relationship was reported between interactive leadership and unit effort and ethic, though the relation with discipline seemed opposite. Moreover, the relationship between interactive leadership style and unit effort and ethic was negative, while with discipline it proved positive.
