Paradigm-like organization of religious and modern identities in the young generation's identity

The coexistence of religious identity and modern identity in the young generation has influenced the organization of their identity. The aim of this study is to examine the organization of religious identity and modern identity in the young generation. The sample comprised of 60 student of shahid beheshti university which were selected using the non-probability convenience method of sampling. Research materials consisted of Religiosity Scale (Khodayarifard، 1389)، Secularist Orientation Questionnaire (Marjani، 1379)، Modern Identity Questionnaire (Hatami، 1390) and Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Scale (EOM-EIS2; Bennion & Adams، 1989). Statistical methods of hierarchical regression were used for data analysis. According to results، interaction of modern identity with each of the dimensions religious belief، religious obligations، and secularist orientation predicted ideological identity achievement. Also the religious emotions dimension alone was a predictor of identity achievement. Results suggest that the religious emotions (morality) dimension in consistence with modern identity leads to identity achievement، whereas other dimentions of religious identity leads to identity achievement in an inconsistent manner with modern identity.
