Validity and Reliability of the Basic Beliefs Inventory; Persian Version

Message:
Abstract:
This research is done in order to investigate psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Basic Beliefs Inventory (BBI; Catlin and Epstein, 1992). Participants were 592 students (333 boys and 259 girls), sampled through multistage cluster sampling method, from high schools of Tehran. Principal components analysis with varimax rotation showed that Persian version of the BBI includes five factors: meaningful world, favorable relations, benign world, favorable self, and others, support. The five-factor struc-ture, as model fit indices show, was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. Internal con-sistency of each subscale, ranging from (0.66 to 0.87), was at an acceptable level. In addi-tion, correlation coefficient of the test-retest implementation of the scale was high (r =0.83, p <0.01) which shows the BBI is reliable. In brief, based on our results, the Persian version of the BBI can be used as a valid and reliable measure in Iran.
