Relationship between Parenting Styles, Cognitive Style with Student Creativity

Abstract:
Background and Aim
This study investigates the relationship between, parenting and cognitive styles (Independence - field dependence) with creativity.
Material And Methods
This is a correlative Study. The Samples who selected randomly, were 219 students in Khaje Nasir Toosi University of Technology (120 female, 99 male). For data collection the Parenting style questionare, Creativity test exam forms, and Latent forms of the test group were applied. To investigate the relationship of these variables stepwise regression method and to compare the research variables relating to boys and girls MANOVA and t-tests were used.
Results
Rational authority parenting style variables and cognitive style with creativity were in P<0.01 significant. These two factors predict 15.6 of the total variance related to creativity. Sex, Permissive, and authoritarian parenting variables could not predict creativity and therefore were deleted them from the regression model. Also the overall index of creativity and components of the flexibility, cognitive style and fluidity of girls and boys had not differed significantly. Boys were better than girls in component inventiveness (P=0.012). Parents were more relaxed and permissive to boys with their parenting style (P=0.044).
Conclusion
Parents should create a welcoming atmosphere and endeavor to promote children's creativity. Parenting style is a important factor in a Childs creativity.
