Medical management of fever unknown origin in children aged 3-36 months in Madani Hospital in Khorramabad

Fever unknown origin a localized source in history or examination hearse lab tests are useful as a final diagnosis. Fever unknown origin almost always caused because of transient bacteremia; so there is no need for any special treatment. The goal of this study was to determine the management way to of the cases of fever unknown origin in children. In this study 95 children; age between 3-36 month, who were primarily diagnosis with fever, but no local source for their fever was determined were examined. These children were admitted to Shahid Madany Hospital in Khoramabad, they were analyzed via a questionnaire and the analysis of their medical records, this study was carried out over a 5 year period. The prescription of third generation cephalosporin was 95.8% in group lower than 12 months age group and 38.5% in the age group of 24-36 months. Only in 60% of referred children daily physical examination was done. 100% of the children who did not have received proper medication upon dismissal from the hospital, moreover, 87.3% of the children who had fair condition and did not need any medication also received medication upon discharge from the hospital. 23.9 children who′s body temperature was lower than 39Ċ and had negative blood culture prescription of antibiotic was continued. for 42.9% of Febrile children who were in a bad condition and had a body temperature above 39Ċ Lumbar puncture was not carried out. The management way of unknown origin Fever increases probability of antibiotic resistance, and cost Also it impelled the diagnosis and treatment of meningitis. So it need to be revised the management of unknown origin fever.
