A comparative study on the geographical orientation of narcotics crime in Kermanshah province and south Khorasan

Narcotics has been wide spreading, although all conducted collective efforts by countries and international organizations. I.R. Iran due to neighboring to the world biggest manufacturer of opium and being the main passage of narcotic cargos heading to Europe, and as a potential market of drugs has special situation. This study aims to conduct a comparative survey on the main reason of committing drug-related crime in South Khorasan, as an eastern border province, and in Kermanshah as a western border province of I.I. Iran. The method used in this study was analytical and comparative. To find the patterns of available tendency for committing crime, geographical data was employed. The data in this study was collected through questionnaire. Detainees in two prisons of the provinces, were asked, they were serving there imprisonment for drug-related crime. This survey indicates differences between crime patterns in Khorasan and Kermanshah. In South Khorasan generally delinquency patterns are related to producing and transporting drugs, but in Kermanshah criminals are mostly drug users. Base on the result of this study and considering the drug-related crime tendency in these provinces, some solutions were proposed to competent authorities in the field of prevention and fighting drug trafficking and drug use.
