Abstract:
Objectives
Nursing care models in the world were studied in order to answer two important questions: the nature and etiology of a disease، and the way to care for patients to ease their spiritual suffering (distress)، as nursing is responsible for the diagnosis of، treatment of and caring for the patient’s reactions to health problems.
Method
Different epistemological methods generate different philosophical views، forming the theorist’s knowledge and his mental prejudices and giving a philosophical direction to science and scientific theories، but none of the nursing care models in the world has ever used revelational epistemology and the philosophy of the Abrahamic religions. These models have not attended to the heavenly soul of the human being; therefore، in this study، we have studied the heavenly dimension of the world and the human being based on the philosophy of Islam and a revelational epistemology، attempting to provide and implement a patient care model in a five-stage research during 12 years.
Findings
According to the philosophy of the Abrahamic religions، including Islam، which confirms all of them، the world is created with mercy، and the human being should strive to acquire moral excellence in order to deserve to be the vicegerent of Allah. The human being makes his fate by choosing his way of communication with Allah، people، himself and the world، and achieves a sound heart and moral excellence by giving a Divine aspect to his thoughts and intentions، and having an appropriate conduct. The human being، facing a disease، reacts to it with all dimensions of his existence، and sometimes undergoes spiritual damages. Health that means enjoying a sound heart is the final aim of caring، which is achievable in the light of faith and piety، and causes a response compatible with tribulations، which are all caused in the providence of Allah.
Conclusion
The medical team should know the psychological/spiritual response of the patient to a disease، which can express itself as a spiritual damage. Improving patients’ belief and love، and their good thought and hope for Allah’s mercy، the medical team can help them to realize the wisdom of their sickness and have a positive attitude to it، making them relieve from fear and grief and obtaining peace of heart and satisfaction about their destiny. Nurses can assist the spiritual health of patients by inviting them to moral excellence.
