Illustrating the Concept of Talent in Tourism Industry

Today, with advancements in tourism industry in the global arena and the increase in companies'' knowledge about its desired outcomes and applications, competing in this industry has been increased. In addition, due to service-based nature of this industry, human resources have a considerable effect on acquiring the competitive advantage. Therefore, recruiting and maintaining talented people is considered increasingly important by managers in the leading companies in this industry and they hope to recruit the most talented people and keep them in their companies. Hence, this article attempts to illustrate the concept of talent in tourism industry. The research is based on the qualitative approach and qualitative content analysis methods (deep interview with experts in the field and analysis of the contents of the interviews). In order to illustrate the concept of talent in the field, the study used the model of competence «multiplied by commitment». Competences are classified into three types, namely aesthetical, technical, and emotional competencies. In terms of commitment, two types were identified, namely cognitive identity and Discretionary energy into the work to contribute in achieving organizational goals. The authors have illustrated the mentioned features.
