The Historical and Geographical Identity of Hamadan in Muslims Historian's Works from the Beginning to Qajar Era

Abstract:
Hamadan, located in Jibal or Mad region, is among the cities which hold significant historical and geographical identity through centuries to the time of Safavid dynasty; however its geo-political importance was not revealed perfectly because of lack of comprehensive studies on this subject. Therefore, the question raised here deserves a fitting answer: What is the situation of Hamadan in Jibal region of Iran and its cultural and social reflections on urban and state identity and historic city centers (Question). Hamadan is among the cities that its earlier city center was formed before the emergence of Islam, and then it was deeply influenced and changed in Islamic era. These two aspects had their own effects and influences (Hypothesis). The goal of the present paper is recognizing the situation of Hamadan in Jibal region and knowing the identity and historic city centers in the works of orientalists’ works, history and geography writers (Goal). By means of reporting and analyzing history in general, and gathering documentary and library sources we will be able to achieve our goal. (Methodology)
