Strategic planning for the Central Library and Documentation Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences based on David's Model

This study was conducted to develop a strategic planning for the Central Library and Documentation Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. This research is of descriptive type which used a case study method. Research population includes the manager, the deputy and staffs of the Central Library who all were surveyed. Information in various stages of planning including matrix to evaluate internal and external factors, strategic policies, and "Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix" (QSPM) were obtained through two sets of questionnaires and two panel discussions. The David's model was used for strategic planning. -The Library's status of strengths and weaknesses was moderate. The opportunities and threats in the libraries were close to average. The highest score regarding QSPM matrix belonged to SO or aggressive strategies. According to the findings, the library should reinforce its strengths so that the weaknesses can be overcome. Also with the advantage of the opportunities and strengths it can eliminate weaknesses and threats. The high score of SO strategies show that despite the library's threats and weaknesses, it has good opportunities and strengths that allow the library pursues the aggressive procedures to consolidate and expand its position at the national and regional level.
