Knowledge and Practice Level of Self-Directed Care among Diabetics in Kermanshah City in 2014: A Short Report

Background And Objective
Diabetes is an important challenge to health. This study was performed in order to determine the knowledge and practice level of self-directed care among patients.
Materials And Methods
In this cross-sectional study، demographic questionnaires، knowledge and practice questionnaire were completed by patients. Self-care status of patients was analyzed using t-test، χ2 and logistic regression.
Results
The mean age of the 726 patients was 52. 10±13. 92 years. Only 64. 8% were women. In terms of knowledge، them and self-care، 27. 7% of participants had low knowledge، 74. 5% with low practice and 69. 8% of them had low self-care. Between knowledge and practice and education existed significant relationship، so that with increase of education level، knowledge and practice increas more (p=0. 01).
Conclusion
The results showed low levels of practice and self-care، hence، it is necessary to train more self-care programs and identify the obstacles that impede behavioral change and more self-care in patients.
