Comparison of Early Maladaptive Schemes of Girls and Boys Offenders Committed Violent and Nonviolent Crimes (In Probation Center)

Abstract:
Background And Objectives
Various early maladaptive schemes create special vulnerability for types of psychological and pathological disturbances. The aim of this study is to investigate and compare of early maladaptive schemes of girls and boys offenders with emphasis on violent crimes (such as murder، armed robbery، smuggling of drugs، rape، extortion) and nonviolent crimes (such as theft، drug abuse، illicit relation).
Method
This is a retrospective and descriptive–analytical study. The sample of this study included 60 offender clients among clients of the Tehran Probation center by random sampling in the time frame of 93/01/08 until 93/04/01. The data were gathered by using the incompatible Young Schema Questionnaire (short form) and analyzed by using the independent T - test for independent groups.
Findings
The mean scores of offender girls’ committed non-violent crimes in some components of early maladaptive schemas were significantly higher than offender boys committed them. The mean scores of offender girls’ committed violent crimes in early maladaptive schemes of emotional deprivation were significantly higher than offender boys committed them. The mean scores of offender girls’ committed violent crimes in some components of early maladaptive schemas were significantly higher than the mean scores of offender girls committed non-violent crimes. The mean scores of offender boys’ committed violent crimes in some components of early maladaptive schemes and also in total score were significantly higher than the mean scores of offender boys committed non-violent crimes. The mean scores of offenders committed violent crimes in some components of early maladaptive schemas were significantly higher than the mean scores of offenders committed non-violent crimes.
Conclusion
Early maladaptive schemas as self-damaging emotional and cognitive models often originated in mistreatments and injuries of offenders; therefore the identification and diagnosis of them in adolescence ages may provide effective and efficient intervention for psychotherapists.
